Hazel End Care Home have well and truly kicked off their summer in style with a worldwide cruise. Each week staff and residents will be virtually visiting different countries, eating their delicacies, and taking part in activities.

They started the cruise on Saturday 4th of July, where they visited America. For breakfast, residents enjoyed red white and blue decorated blueberry muffins, followed by an American style BBQ lunch of burgers and hot dogs with all the accompaniments. Lunch was enjoyed in the beautiful tearoom which was kitted out with red white and blue themed decorations, residents had flags to wave and wore their best USA colours. Throughout the day American legends, including Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton and Pasty Cline could be heard playing around the home. Residents thoroughly enjoyed sharing stories of holidays in America and fond memories of their times away.

The second country visited was Italy. Residents experienced a taste of Italy during an early afternoon activity of drinks with the captain. Allison Squires Hazel Ends home manager joined residents as the captain as they sampled traditional Italian popular foods and drinks, Parma ham, Mozzarella, olives, and Italian savoury snacks. To drink, residents enjoyed sampling Aperol Spritz which went down a storm. This has now become a new favourite within the home. During this tasting session, Italian facts and trivia were discussed and photographs of Italy were looked through, this activity aimed to encourage conversations about holidays and times abroad. Hazel Ends Lifestyle team wore togas while serving and performed a sing along to That’s Amore. During the afternoon, residents went to the cinema to watch a screening of Roman Holiday to continue the Italian fun.

To continue the excitement of the cruise the next stops include, Germany, Mexico, Romania, Portugal, France, China, Sweden and to finish Hawaii. The stops at each country will include, different cuisine tastings, drink sampling, music, dancing, trivia and quizzes all relative to each country. The staff will also be hosting more drinks with the captain, a staff cabaret show and a cruise casino afternoon, as well as lots more cruise-based fun. Each week Residents and staff are encouraged to dress up for each stop in country colours.

Hazel End Care Home is a luxurious, brand new 66-bedroom facility on Kitchener Road, St Michael’s Hurst development. It is like walking into a top-class hotel with a welcoming reception and a homely environment. The facilities are amazing. There are three lounges, a sky bar with views over the surrounding area, a garden room which opens onto the garden, there is a quiet room, cinema, a library and seating areas in the corridors as well.
