If there was a competition to name the best day of the week, Sunday would win it, hands down, it’s the champion. I appreciate that the working week is not the same for everyone but for those of us lucky enough to have Sundays at home, nothing beats it.

I would always spend Sunday pottering about the house and the garden, doing everything at a leisurely pace and enjoying the calm. There would be the smell of the Sunday roast filling the kitchen and the kids would be sprawled on the sofa, head in a book or moaning that they were bored. Neighbours would chat over the fence and family would drop in or call for a chat. Sheer bliss.

Nowadays all of my time is spent at a leisurely pace, I awake when my body tells me to, not when an alarm says so. I can plan a busy day, joining in activities or I can stay in my room with a good book and a cup of tea or glass of something a little stronger.

Sundays at Hazel End are wonderful, the smell of the Sunday roast fills the home without me having to peel so much as a potato, and the activities are subdued and relaxing. This week we took part in some crafting which was extremely therapeutic, we played cards, we played dominoes and we enjoyed each other’s company and a couple of glasses of wine.

There has only ever been one downside to a Sunday and that was that it is followed by Monday, but the thought of Monday morning alarms and traffic jams don’t affect us anymore, we live in the moment, enjoying life a day at a time and the best part is that we enjoy it together.
