The lifestyle team here do come up with some wonderful activities for us, the majority of the activities are organised at our request but every now and then they throw us a curveball and have us enjoying things that we would never have thought of.
This week we took part in a fun little blind taste test. We were presented with covered bowls full of a variety of foods to sample, all we had to do was identify them. Easy, right? It was quite an interesting afternoon. The foods on offer ranged from chocolate to salad cream and crisps to fruits, everyday foods that we are all very familiar with.
We really enjoyed ourselves but were taken aback that we found the challenge so difficult. Some of the foods were easy to identify but more due to the texture and smell than the taste. It’s amazing how big a part sight plays in our perception of taste. Some of us identified the salad cream as custard and there were people who disliked the taste of foods that they would usually love. It was quite bizarre.
It was great fun and lovely to see everyone talking and sharing their thoughts on what might be on the spoon. We will definitely be doing this again; it was so much fun.
